Ribe

Denmark's oldest town — Viking heritage on the Wadden Sea.

Journey

Jet to Esbjerg · 30 min drive

Ribe, on the south-west coast of Jutland, is the oldest town in Denmark and one of the oldest in Scandinavia, founded as a Viking trading post in the eighth century. Its cobbled lanes, leaning half-timbered houses and the great Romanesque cathedral have survived almost intact. FFGR Denmark reaches Ribe by private jet to Esbjerg followed by a short drive, arranging visits to the Ribe VikingeCenter, the nightwatchman's lantern-lit evening round, and excursions onto the Wadden Sea UNESCO tidal flats to witness the autumn 'sort sol' — the black sun of a million starlings.
