Skagen

Where two seas meet — the painters' light of the north.

Trajet

Jet to Aalborg · 1 h drive

Skagen, at Denmark's northernmost tip, is where the Skagerrak and Kattegat seas meet in a visible line of clashing waves at Grenen. The extraordinary northern light drew the Skagen Painters in the late nineteenth century, and their golden-hour canvases still define the Danish idea of summer. FFGR Denmark reaches Skagen by private jet to Aalborg followed by an hour's coastal drive, or by helicopter directly. The town's yellow houses with red-tiled roofs, the buried Tilsandede Kirke church-tower rising from the dunes, and the Michelin attention paid to its seafood make it the most romantic of Danish destinations. Arrivals at the historic Ruths Hotel are arranged for the high summer season.
